Lesley-Ann Brandt took Instagram to share the news that she finally got her green card which she was trying to get for several years.
Lesley was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Then she immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. As she said in her Instagram post she has lived in the US for almost 10 years and had been married to an American Citizen over 4 years. She is best known for her work in Lucifer as Maze.
She shared the following message on her Instagram Account to give this good news
Real talk. I lived in the US for almost 10 years. I’ve paid for countless visas over the years basically paying just for the opportunity to audition, the work never being guaranteed. I married an American citizen over 4 years ago and because our show shot in Canada for 2 years, I couldn’t apply for residency because I was out of the country for more than 6 months of the year. We own a home. We have a son. And I still waited almost 2 years for a greencard interview under this administration. I happen to be from that “shithole continent” as described by 45. If you think immigrating to America is easy, it isn’t. It’s never been easy, under any president really but this one feels particularly unwelcoming of those from different backgrounds. It is hours of paperwork. It costs thousands of dollars. It is nerve wrecking and at times, you often don’t feel welcome going through immigration at the airport even with legal immigration status and being on a hit show. BUT, today, today I got my greencard and I’m finally feeling settled. Now imagine how difficult it is coming here seeking asylum. My privilege is that I could afford it. That I wasn’t fleeing war, poverty or being unable to take care of my family. My privilege was that I wasn’t born in one of “those” countries.
